Legendary driver Herman Goddard has passed away. He was 90 years old.
Goddard won over 500 races during his career at tracks all across East Tennessee including Atomic Speedway, Volunteer Speedway, and Smoky Mountain Speedway. He won his final race at the age of 68. Goddard was inducted into the East Tennessee Racing Hall of Fame in 1996 and was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2008.
Goddard played a part in the beginning of Warrior Race Cars after he and his brothers founded Goddard Construction. Goddard Performance Parts soon followed.
Goddard was one of the few remaining drivers that began racing in the old modified division in the 50’s, then moving to late models as the modifieds phase out.
