Martha Walker, the lady that sold most of the tickets at Atomic Speedway, has passed away. Her daughter-in-law Liz Walker posted the news on Facebook Tuesday afternoon.
Walker worked at Atomic through most of the time the track was open until it closed in 2006. She was the person to first greet fans as they came through the grandstand gates. She was also a vital person in running the office during the latter years of the track’s opening. She worked alongside her husband, Clark, who was the ticket taker and greeter at Atomic. She was inducted into the Atomic Speedway Hall of Fame in 2001 with her favorite driver Skip Arp.
Walker was an avid race fan and could be seen at other area tracks when Atomic was not racing. In recent years, she faced a number of health problems and stopped going to the races.
No arrangements were available at the time of posting.
