Mountain View Raceway
Stop if you have heard this before. A Tennessee racetrack will soon be no more.
Mountain View Raceway in Spring City, Tennessee has a buyer and racing there is over. According to sources, an auction company is set to buy the property marking an end to racing at the 1/4-mile dirt track. Susan Hampton, one the track co-owners, confirmed the track has been sold and will no longer be used for racing.
Formerly called Spring City Raceway, Kelvin and Susan Hampton began a major renovation to the track in 2017 after purchasing the track. By the time work was finished in 2020, everything was completely new. It became the best facility in East Tennessee.
Like most new or revitalized venues, the track saw early success despite competition from nearby tracks. The track was a favorite among drivers in the area with its high banks and wide corners. Attendance was up and down in recent years. A rotating door of promoters did not help.
Crossville racer Jesse Lowe took over the role as promoter in 2025. Lowe turned things around for most of that season. With a child on the way and the desire to race more, Lowe was only in it for one season. Once the season ended, the Hamptons announced the track was for sale with a February deadline to be sold as a racetrack. No announcements were made once February came to an end. Word leaked out the track was sold but would not be operating as a racetrack.
“It breaks our hearts no one stepped up to keep it going,” Hampton told Inside Circle Track. “We put a lot into the track. But along with our other businesses, we just couldn’t keep it going and keep our sanity.”
