That’s not exactly how this NASCAR Playoffs thing is supposed to work

Matt Crafton won his third NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series championship on Friday night at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Obviously, that’s great for the veteran driver and his ThorSport Racing team. However, his path to that title was not exactly carved out the way in which NASCAR intended when this current championship-deciding system was devised. The current NASCAR Playoffs system is the evolutionary product of the ‘Chase for the Cup’ format that was created following the 2003 NASCAR Cup Series season to prevent a situation such as the one that played out that year when Matt Kenseth won the championship by using…

Don’t consider Kevin Harvick an underdog just because he isn’t with JGR

Three of the drivers that make up the Championship 4 going into the season finale and title deciding Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway have something in common. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex, Jr. all drive for Joe Gibbs Racing and it doesn’t take much of a math wizard to deduce that the organization owned by the legendary football coach has a 75% chance of claiming the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series trophy. As a result of there being three of the four drivers still standing with a shot at earning one of auto racing’s most prestigious crowns…

The Canadian driver will be making his first run at a series title on Friday night at Homestead-Miami Speedway up against two-time NGOTS champion Matt Crafton, defending series champion Brett Moffitt, and three-time race winner Ross Chastain. Friesen himself has scored two victories in 2019 with the first coming on the dirt surface of Eldora Speedway prior to last week’s triumph in Arizona. With that, the…

Ty Majeski pleased with 2019 season ahead of NGOTS debut

Ty Majeski will be making his NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series debut this weekend at ISM Raceway in Phoenix. And with all the success this racer has enjoyed, it would be very difficult to argue that the 25-year-old hasn’t earned the opportunity placed before him. The Seymour, Wis. native is in the midst of a great racing season that has seen him score major victories on the ARCA Menards Series as well as in Asphalt Late Model competition. Majeski will drive the No. 44 Chevrolet for Niece Motorsports in Phoenix as a teammate to NGOTS championship contender Ross Chastain. Majeski…

Bubba Pollard claims Pro Late Model 100 in Nashville

The Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville hosted the Big Machine Vodka 100 race for the Pro Late Model division as part of its All-American 400 event on Sunday afternoon. After all was said and done, it was Asphalt Late Model star Bubba Pollard who would leave the state capital of Tennessee with a winner’s check valued at $6,500. Jackson Boone started the race from the pole after he turned a lap in 18.905 seconds around the .596-mile paved oval on Saturday night. That effort placed him ahead of Michael House, Bubba Pollard, Davey Coble, Jake Garcia, Michael Bolden, Dylan Fetcho, Daniel…

The 35th annual running of the All-American 400 played out on the historic track’s worn surface during a cool afternoon and early evening on Sunday. Mason Mingus would eventually come away from “Music City” with a guitar trophy and a $22,000 payday. Cole Butcher earned the pole position for the main event by turning a lap in 18.101 seconds around the .596 mile speedway. That effort beat out Derek Thorne, Casey…

Kevin Harvick and Team Fighting to Again Contend for a Title

Kevin Harvick and his Stewart-Haas Racing team are on somewhat unfamiliar ground as the AAA Texas 500 approaches this weekend. After having qualified as one of the four drivers to compete for a title in four of the past five season, the No. 4 crew is currently outside the NASCAR Playoffs cutoff with Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway and next week’s event at ISM Raceway in Phoenix remaining before the four racers who will contest the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship are decided. With Martin Truex, Jr. already locked into the Championship 4 by virtue of his win…

Good Thing That Scuffle Happened at the End of the Martinsville Race

Here we are several days removed from the First Data 500 contested last Sunday at the Martinsville Speedway and despite being closer to the running of this weekend’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series event at Texas Motor Speedway, the vast majority of talk, print, and television content revolving around the sport is still focused on the paper-clip shaped track located in southern Virginia. But unfortunately, not much of that talk is centered on the racing that took place the half-mile. Instead, most who are discussing Sunday’s race are chattering about the altercation that occurred on pit road following the checkered…
